Born Anise White in St. Louis, MO, her passion for music was cultivated at an early age. Both parents were avid lovers of a vast variety of music and to add to that love her father was a singer. When Anise was eight years old, her mother realized that she had a special vocal gift that needed to be shared. At this point, Anise began to hone her vocal instrument under the tutelage of the Mid-America School of Music (MASM). Anise trained with MASM until age 14, at which point she went on to sing with the Young Catholic Musicians, a classically trained chorale ensemble which required several tedious auditions to be accepted. Anise recorded two albums with the Young Catholic Musicians. In addition to her musical experiences, Anise also performed in various plays including Mame and Godspell. She also trained with world-renowned gospel singer and songwriter Malcolm Speed in St. Louis, MO and flourished under him until she moved to New York City.

In 1998, Anise came to New York City for the very first time and fell in love with the city. With her dream still unrealized and unfulfilled, she vowed that it was time to make a new life for herself, and that New York was the place to make that happen. In 1999, after the untimely death of one of her best friends, Anise’s inspiration and motivation crystallized and she decided it was the right time to make her dream of singing a reality. With mind made up, Anise purchased a one-way ticket to New York and hasn’t looked back.

It was a chance meeting that connected Anise with Darryl Brown, an established producer, composer and songwriter for such artists as Groove Theory, Mary J. Blige, Changing Faces, Monifah, Sharissa and a countless list of others, which took Anise to that next level. Darryl took Anise under his wing and from there, her vision and journey came to light.

Anise has blessed the mike at several New York City venues, including Ashford and Simpson’s Sugar Bar, BB King’s, CBGB’s, Café Wha, and Village Underground. After receiving rave reviews from an artist showcase performance at Nell’s nightclub, a contagious buzz began to circulate about her, resulting in numerous offers to perform throughout the city, including Harlem’s legendary Cotton Club. Anise was also offered an interview with Barry Mason and Friends on Medgar Evers College radio 91.5 where 3 of her songs were aired. Anise’s music was played on Power 105’s “Mix Show with DJ Kut”. Anise has graced the stage at Harlem Week as well as the New York Kwanza Festival, to stellar reviews. Most recently Anise was featured in an episode of New York Underground which airs on the Mun2 television network. The show included an interview with her, and 4 music videos with her music. The episode was so requested that it aired 3 weeks in a row. When listening to Anise, she reminds you of the pains of relationships, the beauty of love, and the harsh reality of the world we live in.
